Program Overview

What does it do?

Surface water drainage deals with rainfall as it collects around your property. Surface water drainage carries rainwater (and melted snow and ice) from hard surfaces. The above-ground system of gutters and rainwater pipes is referred to as roof drainage; the underground pipework is referred to as surface water drains and surface water sewers.

MasterDRAIN Surface Water is a versatile multi-function program. It is quite possible that an engineer may only rarely use all the facilities available in the program!

Some of the functions are:

Automatic storm water drainage calculations Autogradients option allows the program to set gradients as a function of the pipe diameter Surcharge the system to highlight potential problems - sectional or plan views of the system Database function for interrogating data files Levels calculation sets invert/crown levels automatically, and calculates ramps and backdrops On-screen interactive schematic of system Calculates storage for restricted outflows Direct sizing - size as you enter data Program constants may be modified and save for future sessions 5800+ town hydrological database Full on screen manual and worked examples Full Help file and on-screen 'Quick help' Calculates excavations, and gives quantities of spoil and fill, plus crushing strengths of pipes

Accepts rainfall data from non-UK sources Calculates and prints rainfall intensities for UK locations Performs weir calculations Infiltration calculations (as CIRIA) Plot outfall time/area diagram and system isochrons Visually adjust manhole depths and levels Tabbed sheets facility for job notes -phone, drawing numbers etc. Library option to display manufacturers of equipment System clash detection for SW and Foul pipelines Models vortex control devices (Crown Water Systems) Analyse existing drainage for capacity Peak flow runoff

MasterDRAIN Surface Water is primarily designed for:

DRAINAGE DESIGN ENGINEERS

Those with a developed knowledge of storm water drainage, this program will provide a useful toolbox of routines for designing systems,
calculating storage, surcharging a system and many more aspects of design. Ease and speed of use were the main criteria when writing this program..

ARCHITECTS

The program will allow a non-specialist to design a drainage system and test it. Data may be exported as a DXF file for use in CAD packages. Using the Autogradient option, the only data required for a successful design is the area drained, length and identifier for each section.

LOCAL AUTHORITIES

This program may be used to check submitted designs, or to supply local hydrological data to design engineers.

EDUCATIONALISTS

Civil Engineering or Building Services students will find this program invaluable as an introduction to storm water drainage design.
